Snap Execution

Select one of the following three modes in which the Snap executes:

  • Validate & Execute: Performs limited execution of the Snap, and generates a data preview during Pipeline validation. Subsequently, performs full execution of the Snap (unlimited records) during Pipeline runtime.

  • Execute only: Performs full execution of the Snap during Pipeline execution without generating preview data.

  • Disabled: Disables the Snap and all Snaps that are downstream from it.

Description:

This Snap transcodes a binary stream from a selected character set to another character set. For example, it can be used to convert an "ISO Latin 1" text file into an "UTF-8" text file.

  • Expected upstream Snaps: Any Snap with a binary output view, such as File Reader.
  • Expected downstream Snaps: Any Snap with a binary input view, such as CSV/JSON/XML/Fixed Width Parser Snaps.
  • Expected input: Binary text data encoded in a known character set
  • Expected output: Binary text data encoded in a selected character set


Prerequisites:

The input binary data should be a text of a known character set. The Snap cannot automatically detect the character set of the input data.

Views:


InputThis Snap has exactly one binary input view.
OutputThis Snap has exactly one binary output view.
ErrorThis Snap has at most one document error view and produces zero or more documents in the view.

Label



Required. The name for the Snap. You can modify this to be more specific, especially if you have more than one of the same Snap in your pipeline.

Input character-set



Required. The character set to convert from. Click the 'Suggest' bubble for available character sets.
Please select 'ISO-8859-x' for 'ISO Latin x'. 'ISO-8859-x' is an official name for 'ISO Latin x' character set.

Example: ISO-8859-1

Default value: UTF-8


Output character-set


Required. The character set to convert to. Click the 'Suggest' bubble for available character sets.

Example: UTF-8

Default value: UTF-8
